Philly’s Top Five

What Makes Philly, "Philly"

Brett Brown, Ben Simmons praise Matisse Thybulle after win over Jazz

The Philadelphia 76ers finished off the Utah Jazz on Monday 103-94 for their fourth straight win and it was a solid night all around for the team. Tobias Harris, Al Horford, Joel Embiid, and Ben Simmons all had solid nights, but the talk was about the rookie.

Matisse Thybulle hopped off the bench and poured in nine points on a perfect 3-for-3 shooting from deep and he had three steals in 25:32 of playing time. His energy was infectious and it gave the Sixers a big boost when he was out there.

“I thought that he played more tame, I thought he took the shots that he should have shot,” said coach Brett Brown. “Under control shots, his shots, and I thought he made some defensive plays that were timely and it’s still a real benefit, still really interesting for me how much ground he covers and can get fingernails on balls and hands on balls. It was one of those games.”

Thybulle was a plus-13 when he was out on the floor and it was one of those nights when he made a big impact. He also has made seven of his last nine three-pointers over the last four games. It’s something that has improved overall and it’s an aspect of his game that a lot of people had concerns over.

“He’s getting better,” said Simmons of his rookie. “He’s finding his flow, getting better looks, and just growing as a player. With time, he’s going to get better.”

The Sixers will hope this all continues for him and the team as they continue to grow as a unit. Thybulle will definitely play a key role on this team moving forward.
