The Philadelphia 76ers needed a spark after a three-game losing streak. Returning home and getting strong play from an emerging bench piece did the trick.

The Sixers led by as many as 19 on their way to a 114-106 win over the Charlotte Hornets at home to snap the streak. Joel Embiid led the way with 18 points and nine rebounds as he had his usual solid night, but Furkan Korkmaz continues to impress as he poured in 17 points and he knocked down three from distance.

This strong night comes off an equally as strong road trip and coach Brett Brown notices a more confident Korkmaz:

He’s playing with confidence. We talked about trying to grow a bomber, he makes a shot in Portland, I think his confidence is at an all time high and it should be. I think his defense is the thing I’m most happy with. He’s actually sitting in a stance and isn’t an isolation pick on type guy all the time. They still will try to test him, I think he holds his ground way more now than he has in the past and he’s playing good basketball and we need him to.

He averaged 12.3 points and he shot 60% from deep on the road trip and that type of play can really jump start a player who is still trying to find his way in the league.

Tobias Harris, who had 14 points in the win, also had high praise for Korkmaz:

I think he’s definitely getting more opportunity. He has a lot of confidence in his shot. We’ve been able to find him and he has a quick release too so he can get it off. He’s just playing with a lot of confidence. We were joking with him after Portland saying he’s a new man, but he’s starting to play like it to so it’s always good. Especially a game like today, have him come off the bench and make three threes and score 17 points. That’s a big lift for us.

The Sixers need the shooting to help spread the floor for the offense to operate and it seems as if Korkmaz has really stepped into that role. It is a new opportunity for him and it seems as if he has had a pep in his step recently. He has proven that he can be a nice rotational piece in Philadelphia and it looks like it will continue.
