The Philadelphia Eagles have the No. 1 rushing defense in the NFL, and thanks to some numbers from Inside Edge, the teams’ ability to not give up huge gains is a big reason why. The Birds lead the NFL in stuffed rate or the percentage of time in which a defense gives up 0 yards gained or tackle for loss on a play.

Eagles opponents have rushed the ball 94 times through five games, with Philadelphia stuffing the play 27 times or 28.7% of the time. The Buccaneers, Jets, Falcons, and 49ers rounded out the top-five.

The Eagles have allowed just 63.0 rushing yards per game through five games, and Philadelphia has logged three games in which it has allowed fewer than 70 yards rushing as well. The Eagles have allowed just 15 first downs via the run, tied for fewest in the league with New England.

The Eagles are also only giving up just 3.25 yards per carry.
