Philly’s Top Five

What Makes Philly, "Philly"

Brett Brown praises Josh Richardson after Sixers win over Hornets

The Philadelphia 76ers needed somebody on the floor who could give the team a little bit of everything in the box score and then also give the team a lift on the defensive end. That guy in the 2019-20 season has been newcomer Josh Richardson who did exactly that on Sunday night.

Richardson had 11 points, seven rebounds, and six assists and he really bothered Charlotte guards Terry Rozier and Dwayne Bacon all night long in a 114-106 win over the Hornets. After a grueling 4-game road trip where they lost the final three games of that trip, it felt nice for the Sixers to return home and get a win and he played a big part in it.

Coach Brett Brown praised his shooting guard stating:

He’s a wiry, active, gangly, at times you’re not sure which direction he’s going to go offensively. He can make plays defensively. I think he’s got a motor that lets him play hard incredibly frequently. It’s hard to maintan that tenacity and energy with anybody. I’m surprised he actually has a endurance level that I see.

On top of his versatile play, Richardson also drilled three of his six attempts from distance and that is something that will really help this team going forward. He is not JJ Redick, he is a little different, but it’s different in a good way.

Brown added:

He’s incredibly different to our other players in a positive way, he is a defensive minded stopper that can guard multiple positions and for all those reasons, his importance to this team cannot be underestimated.

The Sixers hope Richardson can keep this strong play up in their next matchup with the Cleveland Cavaliers on Tuesday night at home.
