Philly’s Top Five

What Makes Philly, "Philly"

Brett Brown happy with what Furkan Korkmaz brought to court on Sunday

The Philadelphia 76ers are trying to figure out a wing rotation as coach Brett Brown is running his latest “tournament” to see who will get the playing time. The preseason schedule is the perfect time to run this so-called “tournament” and on Sunday, it was Furkan Korkmaz’s turn to audition for playing time.

Korkmaz played 10:19 in the Sixers 126-94 win over the Orlando Magic on Sunday and he scored seven points while making one of his two three-point attempts. It caught the eye of Brown who was happy with what he saw out of the third-year guard.

“I thought he was really good,” Brown said on Sunday. “I think any time you’re playing with, you know, sort of veteran players, established players, you have to have more of a chance to sort of find your own groove, and I thought that he did that better tonight. And he certainly didn’t hurt himself.”

It will be up to Korkmaz to continue that type of shooting and production if he is to earn a spot in Brown’s rotation. He had a very productive FIBA World Cup while representing his native country of Turkey and it’s something that can be used as momentum for the season.

The preseason continues on Tuesday when they host the Detroit Pistons from the Wells Fargo Center.
