If you’re in Philly this week, you’re in for a treat. Philly has a number of free events throughout the year. And this week, you’ve got your pick of a play and 3 musical performances! Did we mention that they’re free?
Let’s start with the play. Local playwright Cheyenne Barboza’s play “Running Numbers” will be performed in Malcolm X Memorial Park August 20th at 5PM.
Cheyenne Barboza’s play promises to be riveting. It’s inspired by the poem, “Financial Aid” by Carvens Lissaint. Focusing on a young man with aspirations of improving his life get derailed by the promise of fast cash and the perils associated with it.
Ever Ensemble and Arpeggio Jazz Ensemble
The all-female group Ever Ensemble is composed of musicians who have performed all over the world. With them will be the Arpeggio Jazz Ensemble, a jazz group performing since 1979. You’ll catch them in the courtyard of City Hall, 6PM – 8PM, August 17.
Los Bomberos de la Calle
According to their Facebook page, Los Bomberos De la Calle is a Philadelphia based “Puerto rican Bomba and Plena music group with a twist of reggaeton flow”. Experience it for yourself on August 18th in Norris Square at 7:45PM.
